Noisy Heat Pump/Air Conditioner
« on: December 02, 2003, 08:13:50 PM »
My wife and I live in a second floor condo.  Our downstairs neighbors have installed a heat pump/air conditioner unit in the wall below our bedroom window.  The low frequency noise caused by the vibration of the compressor in this unit  makes it impossible to sleep.  The noise does not seem to be air borne but transmitted through the structure of the building (it is louder 10-12 feet within the room than it is near the window).  A fiberglass hood was placed on the compressor, but the noise reduction was minimal.  Is there anything else that can be done?

Thanks,

Donald

In regards to your noise problem with the heat pump, there is a product that can greatly reduce noise from vibration. The product is called Resatec, refrigeration compresors are tipiclly mounted on solid rubber mounts witch do very little to dampen the viberation noise.Resatec products are also baced on rubber systems but are designed to act as a spring theirby removing vibration and noise at the same time.
