Soundproofing my Room

Hello everyone. I'm new around here.

I am a 16 year old who enjoys solitude and wishes for a balanced, peaceful mind. Unfortunatly, the people who inhabit my house are noisey and obnoxious. My house is a wooden prison with flimsy wooden doors, noisy wooden stairs (with noisy people who trod them), noisy, creeky floors, and enough echo so that when we have first time visitors in the house, they think that they have become scizophrenic due to all the voices they hear.

The irony is that I love the echo, it's just in the wrong spot. I play the bass, why couldn't I have that echo on the inside of my room? My room has the worst acoustics ever heard by man or beast.

What are some things that I could do to decrease the noise pollution in this home? I am willing to do anything that I can afford at this point. How can I make the acoustics in my room better?
