When to do when neighbors make noise?
« on: May 01, 2004, 08:10:42 PM »
I have a noise problem from my ceiling.  We hear heavy footsteps, dropping things, moving things, thuds.  To my level of satisfaction, it is too much noise.  I feel that my neighbors are not respectiful or considerate enough.  When they make this noise, I just want to react and bang on the ceiling.  My husband claims that this is just a consequence of apartment living.  What does one do other than bang on the ceiling (which does no good at all to stop the noise, just lets out emotion)?

Please post any ideas.  Thanks.

The only effective method to combating foot fall noise, (impact sounds) is to decouple your ceiling from the subfloor and joist network above. This is done with resilient channels or better yet, the SSP sound clips and furring channels. The clips will be attached directly to the existing joists and the drywall applied to the furring channels that are clipped into the sound clips. There is more information on floating a wall or ceiling in these helpful links:

Hope this helps you, thanks for the posting.
