Something to put under rug in Boat
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:54:07 PM »
Hi, I have a piece of nice rug, carpet in the back of my boat. It sits over the elclosed engine compartment. Is there something I could glue to the bottom of the rug that would help with sound absorption.
Thanks Roman

Hey Roman.
Boat engines are notoriously poorly soundproofed. Car and boat owners use a foam mat for hood liners and engine compartments. The best type is a closed cell version which provides a great deal of soundproofing for your dollar.
So, you could  use a 1/2 mat and lay a 1# or 2# mlv under your foam mat. This combination will provide a more complete system of soundproofing which includes both absorber and barrier.

Give it try!

Thanks for the question.
