Quieting speakers
« on: June 24, 2005, 07:12:45 PM »
Hello-

I have a set of speakers that sit on a hardwood floor- I've turned the bass way down and keep the volume low, but the sound still goes straight into the apt downstairs. Seems like some kind of pad underneath the speakers would help dampen the vibration and sound transmision, but not sure what to get- figured I would see if anyone has had similar issues, and success with anything in particular.

Speakers are relatively small by the way- about 12x12, so I wouldn't want a huge roll of anything...

thanks!

BJ

IF you visulize the sound coming off your speakers as a big, ever expanding soap bubble, you may be able to see why just slipping something under them will not work.

The pad will have to be very large to have an effect.  The material to use is called MLV (Mass Loaded Vinyl) and is very heavy.  It comes in 4.5' widths and you can order it by the lineal foot.
