Sound proof a second story
« on: July 11, 2005, 07:19:14 AM »
Hi there,

I am in the process of adding a second story to my home and with four children, a mother-in-law, lots of teenage visitors, and a cat, I need a way to keep the downstairs noise downstairs!

What do you recommend to help reduce the noise transmission between floors?  I have looked at several products but I don't want to throw money away on something that doesn't work.  Owens-Corning foam requires 2 additional layers of plywood which adds a lot to the cost.  There is a product called Homosote that doesn't get the best reviews for durability, but it will be under a floor covering.  There were comments about it sagging over time.  If you were doing a project like this, what would you use?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Melia
