cement fiber panels for fence

I want to build a low cost fence to block traffic noise.

Am considering using James Hardie cement fiber siding panels instead of wood to build my sound barrier.  I believe it will be low cost, durable, and the 4x8 panels will mean fewer cracks for noise.  The panels are not thick but they are solid.

Would appreciate any comments on this idea.

Todd.

I have been doing a ton of click click research on what to use to block noise, and I will be constructing a noise abatement wall for Topanga Canyon Blvd, that runs in front of my stellar new house, and the bottom line regarding materials, from my research, is that any material will work as long as it has a density of 20 kg/sq m. (kilograms a square meter)

So, Google your material and the word "density" and you're bound to find an answer. (suggest you also add: kg/sq m, or kg/m2)

This is where I found the info:

http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/keepdown.htm

It's a really good page of info, and the specifics about density are about half way down under "What Type of Material..."

Hope this helps. - AB
