Need to soundproof basement bedroom ceiling
« on: September 13, 2005, 03:44:24 PM »
I have a '20's vintage house, and would like to soundproof a basement bedroom ceiling that is beneath the living room. I can't do anything from the floor above; it all has to be done from below after I rip out the old ceiling. The construction of the floor is not the best to work with: there are wood joists, with a subfloor over those. But the subfloor is not solid; there are diagonal boards with 1 foot gaps or so. Then the hardwood floors are laid on top of the subfloor.

So what I'm looking for is something to place between the joists and/or attached to the new sheetrock ceiling that attaches to the joists. What's my best method?

Thanks!

Ramona
