frustrated with window

I have a big window in my bedroom (60 by 70") which is on the third floor of a condo complex, about 10 feet from this busy street where car goes up to 40-50 miles an hour.  The traffic sound has been annoying us SOOO much.  First we replaced the single pane with a double pane (1/4" over 1/8") window.  It made a big diff, but not big enough for us to get a good night sleep, so I added a second 1/4 laminate window over the double pane.  But it only made a small difference.  I can still hear the traffic!  Any suggestions?  What else can I do?  I'm starting to wonder if the sound comes in from the walls.  Help!

Hi WL,

Have you considered adding heavy drapes over the large window?  If so be sure to hang them from ceiling to floor and have plenty of acordian fold to them - width of drape should be 1/3 to 1/2 again as wide as the window opening.  You can see some already made used drapes from hotels of this type at http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/curtains.htm

If sound is coming in from the walls the most simple solution is a layer of Green Glue and second layer of dry wall - see Green Glue general info at http://www.greenglue.org/ggsoundproofing.html
