After renting my condo for eight years, I finally purchased it in August.  I never had much of a noise problem from the tenants above as there was carpeting on the floor.  Unfortunately, right after I purchased my condo, the unit above me was sold and the new owner installed tile floors throughout.  I can hear every footstep above me and it's driving me nuts.  My condo is about 1014 square feet.  There is about one and a half to two feet of space between my ceiling and the floor of the unit above me.  Any suggestions?  How much will it cost?

A "false" ceiling dropped down to maintain a height conforming to minimum hieght of code, (usually 78"- check with a local contractor for cost.  With support from the walls providing isolation from the ceiling and a goodly air space and some sound insulation, it should work pretty good.
