Help to soundproof my sons shed!!!!!
« on: April 24, 2008, 09:04:34 PM »
Can someone please help me????

My son is a fantastic drummer and has for the past year, practised in his bedroom.  The neighbours have now asked for him to stop.  I have now dug out my garden and purchased an 8' by 6' galvanised steel shed.  It is 7' at its highest point.  I have also had a concrete base put down.

What is the best way to soundproof this shed?  I have been advised of acoustic foam but am unsure of what thickness to buy!  Also is there any other way to soundproof it?  The shed has sliding doors so what should I do here?

Someone please help!!!!!!!

You need to build a brick or concrete block room with about 1 foot thick walls/roof on the concrete base. Put simply you need lots of mass to block the sound and a thin metal shed is not heavy enough. You could build around the shed with a few inches air gap for a room within a room and that would be even better:)
