Soundproofing Windows...
« on: February 25, 2004, 03:41:32 AM »
 Hi,

Our apartment is adjacent to a busy street with traffic round the clock. The master bedroom has two windows each of the size 4'3'' X 3'1'' The window sill is about 14'''. I have read in this web site that soundproofing mat would do the job for windows. Before spending about $300 on two windows, I would like to know if it would work for traffic noise. If it does, how much space I can leave between the mat and the window? I do want  it to be easily removable.

Thanks in advance,
Raghu.

The window plug is 2" closed cell foam that has a 25 STC rating.  You will experience a significant reduction in sound.
