HVAC Water Pipe Noise
« on: February 07, 2006, 04:28:56 AM »
Recently purchased penthouse, but did not realize that HVAC unit on room has water pipes running through utility closet.  Noise is continuous and bothersome.  Water pipe is approximately 3 Inches in diameter, galvanized steel. Pipe is not covered by any acoustic padding.  Would accoustic material applied over the pipes reduce the sound level?

Hi Francis,

Yes, and to make it simple, there is pipe insulation for soundproofing available in tubes to fit most diameters and types of pipe.  For description, sizes, and pricing see http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/pipe.htm The wall thickness of the tubes is 1" and the material is our closed cell vinyl nitrile acoustic foam!  STC is 25.  This solution is highly effective.
