Air Condintioning Unit
« on: April 26, 2006, 04:16:13 AM »
I just a got a loft with concrete floor and little furniture so the sound carries well.  The A/C unit is just a monster (the maintenance guy said its extra loud because I have no ventilation).

So the question is, what can I do about it?  Can I put some MLV over the front cover?  Can I build a false wall over the front or something?  Of course it still has to suck in air so I cannot seal it.  Thoughts?

Hi hozer2k,

There's an excellent discussion of solving air conditioner sound problems at http://www.soundproofing.org/air_conditioner_soundproofing.htm

If you want to apply something directly to the unit to absorb and block sound use the SSP Mat - a closed cell, cross linked, vinyl nitrile acoustic foam.  Use the thickest you can afford.  See the first product listed at http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/prices.html
