Sound proofing my room (with no insulation)
« on: September 19, 2006, 01:15:51 AM »
HI!!

I'm looking to sound proof my room in the most inexpensive way possible.

I live at home and my brothers room is right beside mine (there is no insulation between my room and my brothers) and also no insulation between my room and the hall way.

I'm looking to sound proof my room to a certain extent... I want to be able to play music, watch tv and actually have a conversation that others cant hear when my door is shut.

Any suggestions?? obviously I don't want to knock down the walls to do this... so yeah.

Put up another layer (or 2) of drywall.  That is your most inexpensive option.

If you choose to put up another layer of drywall then consider adding Green Glue to the new layer before installing it over your existing wall.

Keep in mind, that you may reduce the sound through the walls but if you have a typical interior door, sound is likely to go thru the door.

Check out the Green Glue link if you want to learn more about the product.
