STC rated windows in Atlanta, GA
« on: October 15, 2006, 07:39:37 PM »

Anyone know of a source or brand of STC rated windows that are available in Atlanta, GA?

I've seen couple of brands on this forum but they are not available here.
I have a quote from soundproofwindows.com but it's expensive.

The windows I have now are less than 2 years old. I know its the windows transmitting traffic noise. My walk in closet has a wall facing the street and it's quiet, only hear low rumblings from buses or trucks.

And no I do not want to "plug" the window.

Thanks

Don't go and scrap your relatively new windows.  If you have a wide enough of an opening, simply have a second set of 'ordinary' (i.e. much, much cheaper) windows installed and make sure any gaps are sealed up well.  When you want peace and quiet, close both windows.

I guarantee you'll be disappointed with 'soundproof' windows!

Hi michael 1999,
We recommend Milgard windows - they have accurate acoustic ratings for their windows.  Here is a link to them: http://www.milgard.com/products/vinyl-windows/  Have you tried calling them for a dealer in your area?  Or ask Atlanta are window suppliers for acoustic ratings on what they have available locally.  Another idea is a magnet seal approach using 3/8" acrylic.  See the discussion and diagram at http://soundproofing.org/sales/magnetseal_windows.htm
