Author Topic: What soundproofing material can be used under area rugs?  (Read 1137 times)

Hi,

I'm currently renting an apartment and my pets run around a lot making thumping noise. Neighbors down stairs keep complaining about the noise of my pets and roomba robot vacuum. I have a few area rugs (11'x7') that seem to reduce it a little but want to add some sound proofing material underneath it. Can I use anything that can be placed underneath an area rug that will reduce the noise and not make the rugs too high? Like 1/8" thick maybe?

Well, you're obviously talking about MLV.  I doubt it will be of much help in your situation, but give it a try.

You need a thick, soft material (i.e. carpet and pad) to cushion the impact and absorb the energy.
