soundproofing/blocking DJ booth in garage

Hello all,

I will be buying a house soon and would like to build a DJ booth in the garage. Dimensions of the booth will be about 4x4 and maybe 7' walls. My goal is to not disturb the neighbors, will not be doing any live recording with a mic so the room accoustics aren't important for those reasons (all recordings will be line in) but the accoustics are important for me to be able to monitor the mixes correctly. I'm thinking of not using any of the pre-existing garage walls as part of the room but rather, 2 walls of the booth will be 1' away from 2 walls of the garage. Will this layout help keep the noise from the neighbors? I understand there is a difference between blocking noise and preventing echos, standing waves,etc...

If it matters, I spin techno, minimal, tech house, progressive, etc...

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would say you are on the right track.  Our "Portable sound booth" may give you some pointers.  See
