loft style apartment, how much to soundproof?
« on: May 01, 2007, 07:34:20 PM »
How much would i be looking to sound proof a shared wall? it is aprox 26' long by 16' high (416 sq. feet). i was also wondering about the exposed ceiling steel beams that run directly through this wall into the neighbouring unit, what is the ability of these beams to transmit sound? i know sound goes very fast through steel, but can not find any info on if it will emit sound?

Any info would be appreciated

Lofts are difficult due to the open areas.  You can plan on about $7 per sq ft for materials like MLV barrier and more drywall panels.  (No labor here). This will reduce sound levels about 50%.
