Hot tub noise
« on: November 07, 2007, 07:51:59 PM »
I have a hot tub that emits too much noise for my neighbor.  It is round, motor and all plumbing are contained inside a wooden skirt.  It is not possible to separate the exterior wood from the interior mechanics because of expanded foam insulation.  Is there anything I can put around the exterior to dampen the noise? Thanks! Joyce

All of the noise is coming from the vibration of the motor, transmitted through the pipes.  Work on dampening the vibration from the motor first - rubber isolators, resilient mounts, etc.

Without seeing the hot tub and details of its construction, I would not want to venture a guess as to how it is assembled.  If you are looking for a material to put on the outside of the "skirt" then use MLV, MLV w/Closed cell foam, or simply the thickest closed cell vinyl nitrile foam you can.  All these materials can be found on the prices page at
Hey John, what would you choose for vibration isolation at
