Large covered patio capturing sound
« on: January 25, 2008, 09:39:40 PM »
Hi All,

I could use some advice on our noise problem.  We have just completed a home that backs to a 2 lane road. The house is elevated and about 150 yards from the road. The house has a large covered patio (aprox 1000 sq ft) that is capturing and amplifying the road noise- noise we had not previously noticed when purchasing the land. The ceiling of the patio is stuccoed and painted. Is there a product that we can use that can withstand Arizona's high temperatures? Thanks for your help! Kate

You can use closed cell vinyl nitrile acoustic foam to absorb and block sound in that contained space.  It can be in a continuous operating temperatue environment of 180-220 degrees.  For info see the first product discussed at   http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/prices.html
Have you considered erecting a sound blocking cement block wall?  Like the ones used along highways.
