door seal - Room within a room
« on: January 29, 2008, 01:25:49 PM »
Hi

I'm just finishing a room within a room in my intergeral garage that i'll be using for band practise.

I've got two doors hung on wooden frames that currently have a gap of about 20mm between them.

I was thinking of just filling the gap with a generous helping of mastic / silicon sealant. I want to avoid a 'solid' join if possible

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers

Norm

If you put up drywall or wood trim with double-sided foam tape (no mechanical fasteners), it will cover the gap and transfer minimal noise between walls. It's not gonna be perfect, but since you have a room-in a room, 99.9% of your soundproofing work is already done.
