Basement ceiling insulation

I plan to finish my basement soon and Im trying to figure out the most cost effective way to insulate the rafters in the ceiling. I'm a musician and there will be playing going on down there but I'm not going for major sound proofing but substantial deadening would be nice. I'm on the fence between cotton batts and fiberglass batts.  Any coments would help.

The STC difference between cotton and fiberglass batts of the same thickness in an identical wall assembly is only 1 point, or 1 dB, which would be imperceptible to anything but a high-end sound level meter.  There is a huge difference in price, though....

Since the sound travels through the ceiling via the joists, putting something in the airspace isn't going to help much- see
