and you can add a mic to the inside of the helmet to comunicate with others around you.

because i work at a military base in california and we are working on an exposed air feild, wondering if anything like this is avalible?

We have been working on such a device, but haven't had much luck yet.

You can buy earplugs with tiny speakers in them that can be hooked into an audio system.  Add a good pair of hearing protector earmuffs and you can get about 40 dB of noise reduction.

I have a friend who was once a crew chief on an air force base and worked around running jet engines; he told me earplugs + earmuffs were standard equipment, and required.

Basically that's what you're looking at, since a helmet is open at the face and neck and offers no inherent soundproofing in itself.  A helmet wouldn't offer much reduction unless you could seal it up airtight around your face and neck - ouch!

My hearing is badly damaged. Despite wearing ear plug and headphones or even the noise-cancelling headphones worn by airplane pilots, I seem to be suffering hearing loss from plane travel.  Since hearing is also tested through bone transduction, I am hopeful that protecting the rest of my skull from noise might allow me to travel.  Any suggestions for finding or trying to make a sound proof helmet?  I am not handy, but I am desperate enough to become handy.  Thank-you!
