MLV with Padding or Acoustic Membrane w/ padding?
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:21:23 PM »
I'm in a first floor apartment in a converted house and about to try and improve the sound insulation in the living room to block out TV & music noise from the flat below. I'm thinking of 2 options. One is to put down padding, then 2 layers of MLV, then more padding, then carpet. The other is to put down padding, then 2 layers of this membrane stuff - http://www.customaudiodesigns.co.uk/soundproofing/t60.htm - then  carpet. Any thoughts/suggestions? Anyone used membrane before, is it any good? Will it work etc?

Steviemoo,
We have already had a thread similar to yours and I have not heard a response from the people who tried using that company.

As for your ideas, I would recommend your first idea of padding, 2 layers MLV, padding and carpet. This should yield good results for your airborne sound problem make sure you offset each layer of MLV.
The most important process will be placing the MLV wall to wall and creating the seal around perimeter and the seams.

Thanks - That was the original plan which I'll probably go with, just wondered if anyone had experience of this membrane stuff
