basement band room
« on: May 18, 2009, 01:25:31 AM »
I need a place to practice with me band and I've chosen the basement.  Sound travels out through the basement easily and I'm not sure where to start and what to use so help is greatly appreciated.  Its all cement walls and a cement floor there is a door leading outside but I'm not as worried about sound going outside as I am worried about the sound traveling up through the house.  There is no ceiling so possibly something like that would help?

Yes, you should start with the ceiling and that will give you the reduction into the house. Most likely you will also have to address the walls if your LF is still remitting upstairs. Now keep in mind if you dont soundproof the doors and any windows in the basement what is transmitted outside can still enter through the upstairs windows.
Here is one method for the ceiling.

We have other methods also that will deliver a far higher STC raiting.

I am trying to soundproof a basement room that is used as a weight room, so we need the ceiling height.  Are there any possible soundproofing options in this situation?

Yes there are, what is your current ceiling height?
A quality system will drop the ceiling 2 5/8" from the bottom of the joist.
