Hello again,
Hank here. I have a question concerning floor underlayments. I built a pretty awesome studio in my house, with much help from this forum (my go to resource).
However I never did the floors, and I am doing that this weekend. A friend of my wifes built a house and had seven boxes of "Eco Forest" 5/8" bamboo flooring, and I am installing it this weekend (the boxes have been sitting around taking up space, and the wife is ordering me to install it or sell it).
I have the plywood subfloor ready to go, but I need some advice on underlayments. I would prefer the LMV (limp mass vinyl), but Im limited to either Home Depot or Lowes for materials. Im pretty sure neither carries the LMV.
Lowes has a 1/4" cork underlayment. Would this help at all? Its $60.00 a roll, I sure dont want to buy it if it ends up being useless.
Home Depot has "Roberts Harmony Premium 3-in-1" underlayment (its a pad with moisture/vapor barrier), it says the STC is 59.
I know both of these will offer very little, as far as limiting sound transmission. I just dont want to waste any money on something the will be completely worthless.
All I have is the plywood subfloor. I wasnt able to modify, or float, the floor framing (I only remodeled an existing room).
Id like to get some cool rubber or vinyl underlayment, bot HD nor Lowes has anything of the sort. My kids will be away for a week, and the install has to happen this weekend.
Any suggestions or help would be most certainly greatly appreciated!
thank you,
Hank
