sound absorbing curtains

I live in the loft of an apartment and want to block out peoples voices etc. I was looking into some sound absorbing curtains, but don't know which ones perform the best for the money. I would also consider buying used if anyone had any available.

So what would you guys recommend for a good sound absorbing curtain and where can I get them?

Heavy vinyl curtains do about 10% noise dampeneing. There are theater curtains that can deliver a far better reduction but for a steep price.
I would recommend trying a white noise machine first for this problem.
