is it safe to use magnetseel for laminated glass
« on: October 31, 2009, 10:57:17 PM »

Hi guys,

I am thinking about using the magnetseal to hold 1/4" laminated glass (3'X6'). Is this safe? Also what is the exact size of the steel mounting frame. My window frame has round edges, so I need to know the size to decide if I can use the steel mounting frame to make a flush fit.

Also I need your comments about 1/4" laminated glass vs 3/8" acrylic. The price seems to be similar. Everything else be the same, which will have better soundproof effect?

Yes, it is safe you use glass w/ the magnaseal system. The weight of the panel rests on the window sill, the magnet tape just holds it up right and creates the seal.
The L-frame is 7/8" on both sides of the L.

1/4" vs. 3/8"  glass or acrylic. Thickness equals greater reduction in combination with size of air gap. 3/8" acrylic 2"+ air gap would be better.
