ceiling noise from roof top deck...
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:54:42 PM »

Hello,
I live on the top floor just below a roof top deck.  The sound insulation of the walls and windows is good, but I regular foot steps on the roof sound like hammers on my ceiling.  There is a air space between my ceiling and the roof; the only thing that would be "easy" would be to blow some sort of noise insulation into the air space.
I didn't see any/many positive reviews of such type insulation.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Insulation will not work for you. You must " Decouple" from the structure...
You have to break the path from the deck to your roof...eliminate the path = major reduction.

Take a look at the deck and see where it is hard connected, what we are looking for is all the locations we can seperate the deck from the structure with neoprene pads....you will not be able to eliminate all connections for structural support but if you can reduce some of the connections you achieve a reduction.
