Another Drummer practice room thread :)
« on: January 22, 2010, 06:45:53 AM »
To start my business, the shire needs me to do something to the windows. Strangely, they are being very cool about it saying that I just need to put a mattress against the  windows and they will be happy (since I already use sound off pads on the drums themselves). Unfortunately I realise that this won't stop noise getting out the window - all it will do is make the shire happy. I'd rather try building a false wall infront of the window.

So my idea is to basically do this:

I will build it up to the roof, and seal it with stop gap or similar on the floor.

so, since i am inexperienced, i have a little bit of money, what opinions or advice can you give?

Also, more importantly, how do I go about actually doing this. what do I need to buy, and how do I put it together and install it?

I'd do any work myself that I can, to save money... but first do you think this idea is valuable... will it make much of a difference?

its not quite a room within a room... but surely blocking off that window will help a lot since it is currently the major problem with the room. Next the roof...

having now read this thread,2118.0.html

I am going to try and create a double leaf...

any advice will be appreciated... even though my biggest constraint on this project is time, then money. (I have up to about 1000$ AUD budget... which is a little bit more than nothing) :P

decided to go with NuWave "Base" from nuwave.htm

instead of putting a double leaf (second window) in. a lot cheaper... ie less than $150 installed.

I'm going to put it off the existing window and create a gap that way.

no one has commented yet. I hope if i was doing something wrong you'd jump in!

As long as you create the 2" or greater air tight seal in combination with a decent STC rated material you will get a reduction value.
You could use 3/8" acrylic (plexi glass) as a good barrier as well.
