Hi all,

I live in a house with several other people and I'm attempting to attenuate the sound coming in and out of my room. The first thing I want to take care of is the door, and see how much that will do since I don't have much of a budget atm. This is particularly an issue between my next door roommate and I, so we are planning to do the same thing for both doors. I am thinking of weatherstripping the frame and getting a door bottom to see how that goes at first.

Someone on another forum looked at the door sweep sold here: http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/soundproofing_doors.htm and said it wouldn't do much compared to something like from Zero International: http://www.zerointernational.com/catalogpage.aspx?page=19 although he didn't elaborate on why. Any thoughts on that, and is this one special compared to a door bottom from the hardware store?

Also, how would the tape for the door frame be different from weatherstripping you get from the hardware store?

Finally, I'll have to find some material to stuff in the doorknob area. There is a keyhole for a skeleton key, but the locks were removed and you can see right through the hole. Suggestions for that?

Thanks!

im in the same position:
see my thread here (with answers).
http://supersoundproofing.com/forum/index.php/topic,2665.msg7272.html#new

i just ordered the door sweep:
http://shop3.mailordercentral.com/supersoundproofing/prodinfo.asp?number=09%2D42746%2DT

and some gray pvc tape:
http://shop3.mailordercentral.com/supersoundproofing/prodinfo.asp?number=09-42745-G3-75

look at the photo of my door - you'll want to take (gray pvc tape) and tape/seal the door stop (red squigglies).

my order should be here early next week and ill let you know how it goes.

the door sweep is only $20, so if it doesn't work as well as your friends suggestion, you're not out a lot of money.
