Hi all,
I am in a situation where my roommate and I have a spare bedroom that he's going to let me turn into a recording studio of sorts. It has an adjoining bathroom, and is probably about 14' x 15'. It has hard ceramic tile floor, partially covered by an area rug (under the bed), and drywall for the walls (naturally). The ceiling I believe is also drywall, but is coated with a textured paint. The door to the bathroom is fairly light and hollow, though I'd be the only one using it, and I'm not likely to be recording at the same time!
The bedroom door is a little more sturdy, but still not very heavy. When it's closed, I can't hear most things that are going on outside the room... depends on how loud they are.
In this particular instance, I'm more concerned with the absorptive qualities of the room. I'm going to be using it to do voice over work, so I am concerned with outside noises getting in, and how much the sound of my voice is going to be reflected off of the hard surfaces in the room. Now, having a bed with a blanket and many soft surfaces in the middle of the room helps, but not entirely. I realize that there are some sounds I'm just not going to be able to control (like living near an airport), and those will just have to be handled by timing, but as much as possible I'd like to improve the general sound of the room. The tricky part is having it be a somewhat temporary setup, that can be taken down with little work, and minimal damage to the room, and also be within my reach monetarily speaking.
Things I notice about the room:
1. Air coming in the vent
2. Construction through the window on a nearby site
3. the fan of the computer just outside the door (which will be closed)
4. the kitties running around!
Any ideas?
