Basement Jam Room Soundproofing help!
« on: May 11, 2010, 04:13:57 PM »

My band recently moved into a house and have been using the basement for a jam spot.  We have made some strides in blocking the sound.  We put the acoustical pannels we did on the door (leading to outside) in the basement.  We also put insulation in all the basement windows.

What is complicating things is that we have a spiral staircase leading upstairs with no door.  So the sound also travels upstairs and out.

Our main concern is blocking the sound from going outside, not so much blocking the sound inside the house.  We have built a wall from the staircase to another wall diagonally.  Blocking some of the sound traveling upstairs.  but, we can't block the door so there is a big area for it to come through.

The good thing is you can't hear anything directly infront of the house, and the sound in the back traveling towards our neighbour behind us is minimal.  But, the sound coming out towards the house beside us, is still pretty loud.  Will building a insulated wall, closest to that house do much?  is their anything we can do outside to deaden the sound?

Why not just put in a solid core door? far cheaper than building another wall.

Trying to reflect noise from outside is harder than controlling it from the inside.

Why dont you contact me directly and we can discuss.

sorry.  I said "I can't blockt he door"  there is no door actually.

Also, we can't put a door in because we are renting.  The "wall" we put up is a temp one.  It's actually just wedged in (works for our purpose).

I will be contacting you though shortly.
