Sound proofing thru wall air conditioner
« on: May 29, 2010, 01:26:38 AM »
I built a studio in a back yard shed and it was great but the portable air conditioner was not cutting it.  I added a thru wall air conditioner understanding that it would mess up my sound proofing.  My walls have 2 layers of drywall with green glue.  I'm thinking of building a frame around the air conditioner with MDF and then putting a removable cover over the frame.  This way when the air is not on I can block the sound from coming in or out.

I planned to use cement board with foam as the cover.
Should I line the frame and cement board with MLV?  should the foam be inside or outside my box?  Will closed cell foam work for the gasket between the cement board and my MDF frame?

Any suggestions?  Do you think it will work?
