Applying Soundmat to Outside of Wall
« on: July 02, 2001, 04:01:02 PM »
I will be renting a condo in which one wall of my home
studio will be shared with the neighbors.  I have no
construction skills and I am not allowed to do any
construction anyway.  If I apply a layer of sound mat to
the wall and cover it in some way, will this help a little
a lot, or any at all?
thanks

The way to do this is to buy some paneling from the hardware store and cover the back side of it with our soundproofing foam.  Pick a facing you like. Glue it on with contact cement.  Place the panels on the wall with the edges fitted tightly together with a few nails to hold them against the wall. Caulk the tops and bottoms with non-hardening caulk.  This system seems to work very well if it's just living sounds coming through and can easily be removed so you can take it with you.
