Road noise outside cabin

I have a cabin that faces a two-lane road. The lot is about 20 feet above the road way and sets back from the roadway about 40 feet. It is essentially a corner lot on the hill. I want to reduce the noise coming up from the road that is very loud when sitting on my deck. Is landscaping going to work or would building a physical barrier work better?

David, if we had the definative answer to this, we'b both be rich!  Actually the answer is that neither will work well.  Perhaps noise cancelling technology would take care of this, but I doubt it.
