how-to install mass-loaded vinyl in walls?
« on: August 02, 2001, 08:59:36 AM »
I got the book, and I read the URL description at
http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/flooring.htm,
but I'm still confused on how to install your
mass-loaded vinyl inside a wall?
In particular, I'd like to rip out the sheetrock
from a 2x4 bathroom wall, stick in mass-loaded vinyl
b/n the studs, and then put on a new 5/8" sheetrock
wall.
Q#1: does this make sense?
Q#2: what do I attach the (heavy) mass-loaded vinyl
too?  I can't imagine that I'm supposed to
attach it to the back sheetrock wall...!  Am
I supposed to suspend it from the header, like
    a "drape" inside the wall?
Thanks!

It's best to use it with other materials as described below.
