Neighbour might hate Kinect
« on: December 08, 2010, 01:29:40 PM »
I'm thinking about getting Microsoft's Kinect but I'm on the 5th floor of a condo building and I don't want to cause any problems with my 4th floor neighbour.

Using Kinect would involve running on the spot, jumping, and moving side to side; all of which will cause a significant amount of impact noise.

I currently have a floating laminate wood floor and I don't want to have to rip it up to add more layer's of soundproofing just to play a game.  If I were to put a couple layers of MLV directly on top of the laminate, and then put down a 12mm rubber mat on top of that, would that eliminate the impact noise?  The "mat" would be approximately 6' x 6' (I can't cover the entire floor and, because it's a small condo, I need to be able to roll it up and put it away when I'm done.

Or should I just forget about it and wait until I buy a house to enjoy motion control gaming?

You can try what our Dance Dance revolution people have done to reduce their noise problems.
