Neighbours from heaven

I live in an 1890 semi-detached, row-style frame house. Both sides have no original interior partitions so are open concept. My neighbours are expecting a new baby and (bless their hearts) want to sound insulate the common wall on the 2nd floor where the bedrooms are located. I just went through a partial renovation and insulated 25% of the common wall on the 2nd floor by removing the sheetrock/plaster-on-lathe then blowing in closed foam insulation, and installing 2-layers of 5/8" drywall over resilient channel.

I'm don't think my neighbour is up for a full demo and frankly the amount of material removed during my sm demo was astonishing. Other postings indicate applying a layer of 1/8" MLV w/psa directly to the existing drywall followed by at least one layer of 5/8" sheetrock screwed to studs with green glue sandwiched in between.

Is this going to be effective and would we get an additional bump in effectiveness if I did the same to my side?

Yes this system would benefit you especially on the source side.
The float system you did would still be the best but this would be second best.

Thanks Randy for the quick reply. Would there be substantive improvement having 2-layers of 5/8" sheetrock on the source side? What about putting resilient channel on top of the MLV to take the sheetrock?

yes there would be improvement, remember that using channel is a huge difference in reduction value because you are decoupling...so yes MLV then channel then 2 layers of sheet rock would be a better result.
