Help with gaming subwoofer noise
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:44:32 AM »
I moved into what I thought was the perfect apt about 2 months ago only to find that my neighbors play loud war games on their XBox EVERY SINGLE NIGHT from about 1:00 a.m. until around 4:00.  I figure they have about a 500 watt subwoofer.  I've tried the usual routes of complaining to mgmt etc. but it's not the noise, it's the bass.  Therefore, no one else (according to mgmt) has ever complained, and this is a long-term tenant.  I've tried white noise, etc. but the shooting, specifically, makes my entire apartment shake.

Is there anything at all I can do to lessen my pain?  Improvements cannot be permanent.

If I put MLV with closed cell foam backing on the floor under my bed, and on the wall behind my bed, do you think this would help

Also, where does anyone find MLV in Texas?  The local Home Depot and Lowes have never heard of it!

The Bass will be emitted through out the entire structure so just applying MLV to certain areas I doubt will deliver huge reductions. Your in a tough spot, the soundproofing should be done at the source for LF (bass).
I would suggest headsets, anything else would require complete room coverage walls/ ceiling/floor.  :(

I am one of these people that have a very powerful sound system (I love my movies)

I have 2 floor cerwin vega floor speakers with 12'' subwoofers and a separate, self powered, 400watt 15'' subwoofer.

I have a landlady that lives below me.

What can I do (without pulling up my carpet) can i do to soundproof around my speakers to encourage sound dampening?
