Bought a condo about a year ago and turned out to be a terrible decision. Bottom floor of a two story building. Built 1983. Southern California. I hear ~~everything~~
Long story short (I'll add details if asked) I already investigated what it would take to fix my ceiling:
Remove drywall and insulation, apply STC 51 acoustic draft sealant and vinyl nitrate (foam) to back side of electric boxes and any acoustic holes. Install STC 45, NRC rated 1.15 sound insulation in stud bays. Install 1/8” Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV), STC 27, “Floating Wall System”; decoupling sound clips, hat channel, 5/8” drywall, STC 35, and. acoustic draft sealant at perimeters. + paint+finish.
About $30,000 for 1000 square feet.
Considering I'm already a bit under water at this point spending another $30k on this 'piece' is not worth it.
Here's the question:
What are my options for putting something beneath the flooring of the upstairs unit?
Thanks a lot everyone!
