Hi there,
I recently moved into a bachelor apartment with a skylight. The neighbouring apartment was empty for the first month, but when they moved in I made the unfortunate discovery that the skylight opens into both apartments. There is no barrier to speak of so I can hear everything my neighbour does almost as if we are in the same room and presumably he can hear me as well, which is disturbing to say the least.
I would like to block it off somehow. The opening in my ceiling which goes to the skylight is 22 1/2 by 44 inches. I was thinking that perhaps I could put in a sheet of plexiglass or some other transparent material which would still allow the light in but would attenuate the noise going both ways.
Would that be feasible? What would be the best way to attach the plexiglass? What would be the best type of plexiglass for this application, and would less expensive kinds work almost as well? Would an entirely different approach be better?
