Most inexpensive barriers/walls?
« on: September 27, 2011, 11:35:14 PM »
Hi there,

What is the most inexpensive way to construct new barriers/walls (where walls do not already exist)?  Using what materials etc.?  These walls need to reduce sound (not soundproof) and provide reasonable thermal insulation.

The space is a second story (essentially wooden) loft with exposed ceiling beams.  Very few construction limitations other than my own somewhat limited build experience, (although I have build savvy friends for assistance).

Cost is a major factor as this is a simple training facility for Aikido practitioners; the walls are specifically for the live-in students (me  :)) to create some privacy and maintain some heat during the cold months.

Any help is appreciated!

Sincere thanks,

Randy S

Mass loaded vinyl

cotton fiber insulation

The rest will be up to your contractor friend to build the removable walls.....

Fill cavities with cotton fiber then staple MLV to the studs, tape ,add drywall...then make sure you seal walls to walls in the corners once installed.
