I've gotten a lot of help from this message board and the guys at supersoundproofing on my project. I'm finishing a room in my basement that will be used as a rehearsal/recording space. My goal is to get the best soundproofing at a moderate price. My goal is that after I'm done my drumset will still be heard throughout the house but at a reasonable level, and barely noticeable from outside the house.
Anyways. I have pictures and would love some suggestions for the next steps.
What I've done so far:
- Roxul insulation in the walls, and R30 fiberglass insulation in the ceiling joists
- 2 Layers of black roofing felt stapled to the studs
- Double drywall and green glue on all the walls (1/2 inch, I was hanging it myself and 5/8 wasn't doable).
- RC2 channel on the ceiling and 5/8" drywall
- Ordered solid core doors
Next things to do:
- Caulking! - electrical boxes, lights
- Installing the doors and soundproofing all gaps
- HVAC vent soundproofing? - I have no idea how to do this
- Am I missing something?
This gives you a good idea of the wall structure http://db.tt/4OouWwrlThe room, looking at the stairway door http://db.tt/wUqkV2U9Looking at the laundry room http://db.tt/RrOIIPXzA closet area under the stairs. I guess there is some soundproofing to be done in here? Notice the drum set all packed away and dusty
http://db.tt/EHubezL0I had to use electrical box extenders because of the double drywall. Should I just caulk away at all any gaps? http://db.tt/9UjNvCUYThere are two holes in the drywall I had to make to have access to the main water shutoff valve. I'm not sure what the best way to soundproof this would be, other than stuffing in roxulhttp://db.tt/z2xD3gdbI'm looking for any help/suggestions, but also specifically how to address the electrical boxes, holes for water vales, and air vent. Thanks!
