Mass Loaded Vinyl for Door?

Price is no issue, but amount of work and time is. I need to write documents.

Also, what wood for solid wood door is required, and where can I buy ones that do not need to be worked on? I have no tools for wood, or skills to use. Hope depot does not sell finished solid wood doors, only slabs.

Can I use the above materials without changing the door? I have hollow core door. Better than nothing, if covered with MVL?

Do I need to MVL both sides of door, or just that side facing noise? What is difference between MVL and lead?

Cheers!

MLV installed on source side.

You can use any one of these barriers listed below...most will have to be applied with a heavy duty contact cement or use the one with PSA.  Adding foam mat is additional if you want to increase the reduction.

This should be done on a solid core door NOT hollow core.

Would a hollow core door break under the weight? Nobody sells finished interior solid wood doors where I live. Only slabs.

I have no tools for working wood, or painting and finishing.

Suppose I use PSA MLV pads. How much can I load onto the door I have, would you think, if it has three solid hinges. What thickness of pads would you recommend?

I don't need total soundproofing, and not so much low noises as high-pitched noises, which should be easier to prevent from getting through.

Also, is there any reason for using MLV mats, instead of pads?

More pads which you offer have PSA, and I was thinking of 1/4 inch or thicker material.

Thanks

I wouldn't think so, the problem is a hollow door acts like a resonance chamber and therefore a far lessor reduction would be experienced.

absolutely more of a reason to use mass loaded vinyl ....do a single layer on each side and hope for the best.
You might need 3 hinges because you would be adding about 40 lbs of weight to the door.
You want to add Mass trust me on this one...the foam doesn't quite match that value in the thinner thicknesses you would have to use 1" or thicker and cost would be more.

I ordered the PSA MVL.

33 square ft., the tape, and the door sweeper. Will do one layer on each side for now.

Based on what it does, I see how many additional layers I'll need and order them as needed.

Also, you should upgrade the screws in the hinges - a hollow core door has pathetic, short wood screws.  To hold the additional weight, replace them with 1.5" - 2" screws on both the door and jamb sides.
