Noise from a party wall that is actually a wooden door :/
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:57:18 PM »
Hello, I hope someone can help me here!
I live in a small rented apartment that once was actually a big one but was divided into 3 separate apartments. Thing is, the job that was done here with that is pretty lame.

I attached a photo so you can see where my issue is. If you look at the kitchen, you can see a door next to
the mini-fridge/microwave. That door isn't in use actually. It's locked, handle was taken off so it basically acts as a shared wall. On my neighbor's side it actually looks like a wall because it's painted in a way that you can't see. Only on my side it actually looks like a wooden door.

Thing is, these neighbors are pretty loud. I can hear them talking, I hear their subwoofer when they listen to music, and I hear other interesting things (use your imagination). It really pisses me off!

I was wondering if treating that party door with Green Glue and drywall can help reducing the noise level.
I'm afraid I'll have a hard time blocking all the gaps since it's a door and not a flat wall and I don't want to end up wasting money.

Any help will be appreciated,
Thanks!

I would go ahead and follow the directions for building a window plug and just apply it to your door. basically building a door plug..it looks like you have enough room to make a good seal.
