I am looking to convert my attic in my home (built in 1916) to a music studio.
I have done a lot of research online and am trying to figure out how much or how little needs to be done in order to stop sound from leaving and entering this space, and to make it sound as good as I can within a reasonable budget. I have a good friend who is a contractor and I also consider myself a somewhat handy and intelligent person.
I have roughly 800 square feet of usable space, accounting for 4 foot walls where the roof comes down. The floor now is old hardwood, with no insulation between the ceiling below and this floor. The exterior of the house is stucco and wood, and seems to be pretty sound resistant, as the home is built quite well. There are hundred year old single pane windows with good storm windows on the outside. I plan on using spray foam insulation and batting on the roof and exterior.
I am looking for some ideas that any of you would have, as far as flooring suggestions, building technique suggestions.
I hope to have a google sketchup drawing ready sometime in the next week or so.
THANKS!
