I am renting an apartment on the top floor. As soon as the warm weather started, I started to feel an intense vibration all around the apartment. I tried to sleep on the floor and in different parts of the apartment but nothing seems to work.
I called the realty several times, and eventually somebody came to inspect the issue. These apartments have HVOC units with big AC. He said that the reason why it vibrates is that the compressor of the next door AC is not working properly so, when the AC is on for several hours, after a while it starts freezing and therefore makes the walls vibrate. The sounds travel through the external wall and from there to the entire apartment.
Instead of changing the compressor, what they did is change the ac unit, saying that it was too big for that apartment. The result was no change whatsoever.
Now, I also suspect that they have some vents on the roof that contribute to the vibration because at times we can hear the AC shutting off but the vibration changes in nature but it keeps going. It goes from a train/plane like vibration to a massage bad sort of trembling. I don't know if it makes any sense but it seems to be that the big wave coming from the AC unit neutralize the vents.
I have been reading this forum for weeks and I tried everything: the dry/wet towels, cloth, pillow. Nothing reduced the vibrations at all. Also, I believe what is really the problem is that I have a tempur pedic that weights and estimate 200 pounds so I am afraid that the insulating disks might not work.
At this point, I am only looking to get through the Summer. I will move next year but I can't think of not sleeping until the weather gets cold in three months.
Any suggestion will be more than appreciated.
