Floor/Ceiling Soundproofing Option?

hello.  My mother in law is moving in to our house, and will be taking over the bedroom just below mine and my wife.  Prefer her not to hear all that "goes on" in our master bedroom above.  It's a smaller house to begin with.  Any suggestions on minimizing noise through my bedroom floor/her ceiling?  Rug is not an option, due to allergies.  Thanks

You are going to either add soundproofing to the floor above or the ceiling....which side would you like to add mass on? do you have canned lights below?

If you are trying to reduce footfall also than you will need to remove existing drywall.

No canned lights below.  I'd like to add mass to the ceiling in the room below - don't want to rip up floor in master BR.  No problem removing the ceiling drywall in that room.

If the ceiling cavity is filled with insulation then we can do a simple mass addition to increase the reduction.
If the ceiling cavity is empty I would recommend removing the drywall and start from scratch.

Fill the cavity
add mass loaded vinyl.
caulk and tape
isolation tape
drywall finish.

How much does a job like that cost, generally?  The downstairs room is roughly 10x10. 

I'm in new Jersey.  i just noticed you are in soCal... Do you have local contractors?

The material cost for that size room will run around $400.00 not including labor costs.
I'm sorry but I do not have a contractor in your area that I can refer but if you can find a good one than we can provide installation instructions to make sure it is installed correctly.
